Sound the Alarm - FLYP Serves

FLYP Serves is joining the American Red Cross to Sound the Alarm to Save Lives from Home Fires

Here in Fresno, the Red Cross Central Valley Chapter is holding a Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, April 28 from 9am – 4pm. FLYP will be volunteering until 1pm but members are welcome to stay longer if desired. Volunteers will be canvassing neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms and helping families create escape plans.

The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year, the majority of which are home fires. Working smoke alarms in a home cut the risk of death by half, and having an escape plan further improves the odds of survival. The Red Cross wants to end these tragedies and save lives, the reason why the organization launched the Home Fire Campaign in 2014.

Volunteer Roles:
There are a variety of ways to help at this event. Please see below for a general description of these options and indicate any preference you have in terms of how you'd like to help us on the day of the event.

Volunteer Safety Educator: Educates the family on fire safety and assists with completing a disaster plan while the smoke alarms are being installed. This volunteer should be comfortable speaking with a wide variety of individuals.

Volunteer Smoke Alarm Installer: Installs smoke alarms in homes during the canvassing event. This volunteer should be comfortable using a ladder and a power drill.
Volunteer Documenter: Records information about each home and the number of alarms installed. This person should be comfortable completing basic paperwork.

If you are interested in participating please email Tori D'Ambrosi attdambrosi@flypinfo.com by end of day 4/20/2017
