Community Outreach Committee
FLYP’s Community Outreach is committed to giving its members the opportunity to get involved in and give back to their community. We recognize that today’s young professionals not only want to be successful in their profession, but also want to make a difference in their community. The Committee explores, plans, and facilitates a variety of volunteer and philanthropic events for FLYP members to participate in. In the past, these events and opportunities have included: volunteering with Fresno’s Junior Achievement (www.ja.org), Community Food Bank, and the American Cancer Society, and also raising money and donations for local schools and animal shelters. The Community Outreach Committee meets monthly to plan these various events, and if you would like to attend a meeting or become a committee members, please contact Nikki Bishop (contact info below) for more information.
Civic Relations Committee
FLYP Civic Relations (formerly know as Government Affairs) recently became a new Committee under FLYP in September of 2009 and is dedicated to promoting awareness and providing opportunities for members to become more involved and better informed about their local and regional governments. The committee’s specific goals include:
(1) To provide non-partisan/multidimensional updates to FLYP members about local and regional issues that members should be aware of.
(2) To help FLYP members become more aware of opportunities to be appointed to various local and regional commissions, boards, and councils.
(3) To promote awareness of FLYP among local, regional, and statewide elected officials.
(4) To monitor and research various government based grants and funding opportunities for FLYP.
In addition to these goals, the Civic Relations Committee will also be planning forums, debates, and town hall dialogues for candidates of local to state-wide offices to take part in. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Civic Relations Committee, contact Allison Boogaert (allison.boogaert@gmail.com). The Committee holds monthly meetings and guests are always welcome to join us and provide input.
Want to Partner with FLYP?
Are you a local non-profit or charitable organization that you think FLYP should get involved with? Would you like volunteers to get involved in an event you are putting on? If so, contact Allison Boogaert for more information. If there is a particular event you would like us to get involved in, please allow for at least a one-month notice prior to the event so that we can properly prepare for it.
